WE DID IT! La Tuna Canyon Road Safety Upgrades DONE!

As a supporter of safer streets, I wanted to share with you a HUGE WIN that SAFE has just accomplished.

For almost 4 decades, the community has made endless efforts to make La Tuna Canyon Road safer for those who live there.

On 9 December, 2017, Keith Jackson - a family man, supporter of SAFE, and avid cyclist - was nearly killed while riding his bicycle with his family on La Tuna Canyon Road. The result of a gruesome hit-and-run collision.

The Jackson family reached out to Streets Are For Everyone for help from our SAFE Support Program - which gives aid to those who end up in the hospital after traffic collisions.

However, what Keith and his family wanted most was to MAKE LA TUNA CANYON SAFE FOR OTHERS. It had been nearly 40 years without change, but Damian Kevitt, the Executive Director of SAFE, and the rest of our staff took IMMEDIATE action.

And, just over a year after Keith’s collision, we are proud to announce that Phase 1 of the safety improvement to La Tuna Canyon is now DONE!!!

Many thanks to Councilmember Monica Rodriguez, the city Department of Transportation (LADOT), and the La Tuna Canyon Community Association, especially Scott Froschauer for their work to help make this happen.

Most of all, thank YOU for supporting SAFE and giving us the energy to make this accomplishment possible.

Now that 2018 has come to a close and a new year is starting, please consider doing more to support SAFE so we can continue our quest to aid those affected by traffic collisions and make streets safer for everyone across Southern California.
