The road re-engineering has actually happened on La Tuna Canyon Road!
Over the last 6 months, ever since a hit and run driver almost took the life of Keith Jackson on La Tuna Canyon Road, SAFE has been pushing for some changes that have been decades in the making.
In mid-June of this year, the following changes were implemented to La Tuna Canyon Road between Sunland Boulevard and Tujunga Canyon Boulevard:
La Tuna Canyon Road -- Before La Tuna Canyon Road -- After
The hope is that these measures will help improve safety in order to prevent serious or fatal collisions and provide predictable and efficient travel for all users on this busy street.
- a continuous double yellow lane separation throughout the stretch of road
- high visibility pavement
- 1.2 lane miles of buffered bike lanes
- shared shoulder for bicyclists and equestrians
There are more changes that SAFE would like to see implemented, but this is definitely a step in the right direction to save countless lives.
