We Finished The Ride: In Honor of Keith Jackson!
On Saturday, December 9th, 2017, 52 year old father of 3 and avid cyclist, Keith Jackson, was on a family ride with his daughter-in-law, Rene, and his son, Chris. At around 2:15pm, with Chris and Rene watching, a black SUV swerved across lanes and struck Keith from behind, sending him flying through the air. The driver quickly sped away, leaving Keith lying in the road, clinging to life. Luckily, paramedics arrived quickly and were able to get him to a local hospital where he was treated for a traumatic brain injury.

Just a week later, on December 17th, 2017, SAFE held a Finish The Ride event In Honor of Keith Jackson. 300+ cyclist and other supporters turned out in support of Keith's recovery and finding the criminal who hit him and left him for dead on La Tuna Canyon Road.

Among those who joined us and the Jackson family on this day of awareness were Assemblywoman Laura Friedman, LAPD Detective Buscos of the Valley Traffic Division and LAPD Detective Lopez of the Central Traffic Division.

Check out the video of the event below.

Keith has made great strides since his hit and run. He is now home and continues to attend out-patient physical therapy. He is walking independently and even spent some time riding (a stationary bike, that is)! Although his speech is still slurred and the effects of the traumatic brain injury are still a struggle, he is well on the road to recovery. You can follow his recovery updates here.
