A huge thank you to everyone who called or wrote to Assemblymember Lori Wilson’s office this morning in support of the Safer Streets Act (Senate Bill 720).

Your work kept he bill alive and it’s now officially on the agenda to be heard in the Assembly Transportation Committee on Monday where we expect it to pass. It will then move on to the Privacy Committee on Wednesday.

We’ll keep you updated on its progress through our social media.

Help us reign in speeding

We’d now like to call on you to help us push for the implementation of the Speed Safety Systems Pilot Program.

Assembly Bill 645, which SAFE helped pass in 2023, allows six pilot cities to use speed safety cameras—a critical step toward reducing traffic violence and saving lives. (Read more in the SAFE Streets blog.)

In Northern California, San Francisco’s program is live. Oakland, Glendale and San Jose are moving forward.

But in Southern California, Long Beach and Los Angeles are stalling—putting vulnerable road users at risk.

We’ve been working with advocates to change that, including recent efforts in Glendale and Long Beach.

If you are in Long Beach come one out and attend our canvassing event this Saturday July 12th, 12:00-3:00 pm.

And Sign on to our Coalition Letter of Support and help spread the word to local businesses and organizations.

You can also Call or email your local councilmembers in Los Angeles, Glendale, or Long Beach to ask them about the status of the pilot. You can use this tool to locate your representative.
