WeHo Fountain Ave Streetscape Project Community Meeting Tonight

Just a few weeks ago, SAFE and theWest Hollywood Bicycle Coalition held a Ghost Bike Vigil for Blake Akerman, who was hit and killed while cycling along Fountain Avenue in West Hollywood.

This dangerous corridor has been known for years, yet the city has never taken action to fix it.

Finally, the City of West Hollywood is hosting a Community Meeting TONIGHT (Tuesday, August 19), at Plummer Park Community Center, 6:00–8:00 PM, to discuss the Fountain Avenue Streetscape Project.

The future of Fountain Avenue is being decided—and your voice can make the difference.

Fountain Avenue is one of the busiest and most dangerous streets in the city. Adding bike lanes will:

• Save lives by reducing crashes

• Expand mobility access

• Calm traffic and improve flow

• Promote sustainability and healthier ways of getting around our city

We Need Your Help

But none of this will happen without strong community support. We need as many people as possible to show up and speak in favor of protected bike lanes.

Here’s how you can help:

• Attend the meeting TONIGHT (Tuesday, August 19) at 6:00 PM. Bring a friend or neighbor who also supports safer, greener streets.

• During public comment, speak in favor of bike lanes and share why they matter to you (see the example script below).

• If you can’t attend, please email your support directly to Chris Corrao, Senior Transportation Planner, at ccorrao@weho.org. Every message counts.

This is our opportunity to finally transform Fountain Avenue into a safer, smarter, and more livable street after more than a decade of advocacy. Let’s make sure bike lanes are part of that future.

“Good evening, my name is [Name], and I’m a [resident/worker/neighbor] here in West Hollywood. I’m here to urge the City to include protected bike lanes on Fountain Avenue as part of this project. 

“Right now, Fountain is one of the most dangerous streets in our city. Cyclists are forced to share space with fast-moving traffic, which is unsafe for everyone and recently led to the death of Blake Akerman.

Protected bike lanes will make Fountain safer not only for cyclists, but also for drivers and pedestrians by calming traffic and reducing crashes.

They will also give people more options to get around, whether they want to bike to work, school, or local businesses.

This is our opportunity to design a street that reflects our values of safety, sustainability, and equity. Please make sure protected bike lanes are part of Fountain Avenue’s future.”
