What’s top of mind for me today?

SAFE is 10 years old, and I’m so proud to have been part of its journey from the beginning. I’m equally proud of the hundreds of friends and supporters — like you — that we’ve connected with along the way.

Celebrate 10 Years of Turning Tragedy into Change with the SAFE team and me — Saturday, September 14 | 3–7 PM | The Morrison, Los Angeles — a celebration of lives saved, streets transformed, and the future we’re building together.

What’s the story?

In case you didn’t know, on February 17, 2013, Damian Kevitt survived a horrific hit-and-run—and chose to turn that trauma into action. Streets Are For Everyone was founded in the months that followed and officially received nonprofit status in 2015—marking 10 years of relentless advocacy, life-saving programs, and grassroots change this year.

I’m proud to say that I was one of Damian’s trauma nurses at LAC+USC Hospital all those years ago.

Damian lost his leg, but he didn’t lose his voice — and I’m so happy to call him my friend.

From one crash survivor to a statewide movement, SAFE has grown into one of California’s leading nonprofits tackling traffic violence.

We’ve honored victims, passed laws, educated thousands of youth, trained volunteers, cleaned bike paths, and mobilized a community that refuses to accept unsafe streets as normal.

Now it’s time to celebrate—with all our friends, partners, and community members who made this possible. Join us for an inspiring evening as we reflect on what we’ve achieved together—and launch the next 10 years of impact!

The Streets, Art, SAFE Competition Returns for 2025-2026

The wait is over — Streets, Art, SAFE is officially back for the 2025-2026 school year!

This free, high school educational program blends art, storytelling, and real-world road safety messages.

Alongside the flagship film and poster competitions, this year brings fresh challenges, expanded learning opportunities, special award categories, new sponsors, and, of course, some amazing prizes.

I still remember the first time we gathered in Santa Clarita for Finish The Ride and Finish The Run—the energy, the stories, and the feeling that we were part of something bigger than ourselves.

This isn’t just a run or a ride. It’s a movement for safer streets, a way to honor those we’ve lost, and a celebration of the community that keeps showing up with heart and determination.

On Sunday, October 26th, we’ll be back at West Creek Park, and I hope you’ll join us. Register now—prices go up September 14th—and let’s make this year’s event just as powerful as the first time we came together.

UPDATE: Speed Camera Implementation in SoCal

After years of SAFE advocacy, speed safety cameras are on their way to SoCal. Glendale is moving forward, but Los Angeles and Long Beach are lagging behind.

SAFE is working with city leaders, providing tools, and keeping up the pressure to make sure this program delivers on its promise of safer streets in Los Angeles.

Want Free Entry to Finish The Ride or Run?

Help us spread the word about our upcoming Santa Clarita event — one of the two major fundraisers that fuel Streets Are For Everyone’s year-round advocacy, education, and victim support programs.

We’re looking for volunteers to pass out flyers at running and cycling events or drop materials at local shops. Just 6 hours of volunteering earns you free entry to a Finish The Ride or Run of your choice!
