Dear Subscriber First Name! I’m starting this week’s newsletter with a humble apology. At a time when there’s so much bad news in the world, SAFE has actually been growing—and we have a lot of good news to share. But we’ve been terrible at sharing it with you: our supporters, our volunteers, our friends, and fellow advocates. For example—did you know that this year, we have a team of five staff and interns working on 40 pieces of legislation related to road safety? We’ve co-sponsored four of these bills, and we’re actively supporting, opposing, or requesting amendments on the rest to improve them. That’s just one piece of good news—and there’s a lot more where that came from. This week, we’re highlighting a bill SAFE is co-sponsoring: Assembly Bill 1014, which would help address speeding on certain state highways—like the deadly PCH. SAFE has been working on this bill for two years, and now, its future is looking bright. We’re also sharing a local update on the rollout of speed safety cameras approved through SAFE’s bill AB 645. There’s great news in San Francisco and Oakland, encouraging progress in Glendale, and—frustratingly—some disappointing news in Los Angeles and Long Beach. We’ll break it all down, including what you can do to help. As for my humble apology? I promise we will do better at keeping you informed—about the good news, the bad news, and the many ways (big or small) you can get involved and make a difference. We’ve brought on a Communications Manager, a Volunteer Coordinator, and a Director of Los Angeles County Advocacy—and you’ll get to meet each of them in future newsletters.
