On September 30th, a group of almost a dozen concerned individuals in the Sunland-Tujunga area gathered. Their concern? The high number of injuries and fatalities on Foothill Boulevard. Foothill is listed as one of the High Injury Network Corridors due to the number of people hit and killed. Some of those individuals in attendance, including Jennifer Knopp, personally lost loved ones on Foothill Boulevard.
There were a lot of questions, ideas and strategies discussed. Should they focus on education? Billboards? Enforcement? Re-designing the streets? With so many factors in each life lost, the discussion was all over the map. What was finally settled on was these individuals needed to come together as a strong group in the name of safer streets in the Sunland-Tujunga area and thus, SAFE Sunland-Tujunga was born!
We are excited to welcome the entire group lead by: Joie Hancock, Randy Perez and Nancy Shannon!
They are already busy working out their first events and actions. Stay tuned for news from this dynamic group as they take actions to not only make safer streets but create news as a result.
